Saturday Happenings

Today was working in the garage - mom sawing and me working on making beads.  The above picture is mom's sawing area and a picture of her new saw I got her for Mother's Day.  Mom loves it and is much better than trying to maneuver her other saw to saw out larger pieces.

These are the pendants that she has sawed out - I just need to start filing and sanding them and then have a huge enameling session.  The enameling session will probably be next week.

This is the coy plate she is sawing out right now - I love it and I really hope I don't ruin it when I enamel the thing.  I already know what colors I want to use though mom and I will discuss it so we are on the same sheet of music.  As you know we both have our own opinions on color.

The following images are pieces that she will be sawing out:

I found this mask image on Pinterest and mom modified it for us to use as a plate.  I am really excited to see how this turns out.

This will be another plate - bamboo and finches.  It is actually based on a pendant we made for the April 2011 ABS Challenge piece.

This will be a Day of the Dead plate.  I can't wait until she is done sawing this out and I can play with the colors!!!!

This plate gives me the willies.  Mom really loves it and she wants to make it.  I don't like it, but I have already thought of colors I would like to use.

This is the leaf necklace that we have had in a holding pattern for a year.  I really, really, really didn't want to enamel those leaves.  So, when mom and I were liver of sulfuring the pieces for the Challenge of Literature piece we patina-ed the leaves with them.

These are the beads mom wanted me to make for the necklace.  I just finished torching about 40 of these small beads - extra might go out to the Etsy store.

This is my next project I need to work on after I get done with this post.  That is a huge stack of our patterns that we need to scan onto the computer before we lose them or the cats destroy the patterns.  Mom and I have been talking about scanning these patterns in for two years.  While I was finishing up making beads, mom needed a break, so told her to start going through the patterns and get rid of the ones we don't like and make a pile of the ones she wants to keep.  So, that is the pile I need to start scanning.  It is amazing going through the patterns to see how much we have grown in just two years - pretty mind blowing actually :)

Mom absolutely loves this movie.  I have lost track of the number of times she has watched it - she always finds something new in the visual effects.  I told her she needs to go through the Avatar images and see if there is pattern she likes and re-do it for us.  I love the colors and the movement of the movie and I think mom would do a fabulous job coming up with a pattern.  I may go get her so she will take a break - she is a hard task master!

2011 mom foot surgery
Last year mom had foot surgery - had to have a mass removed from her foot.  That is the picture she drew on her foot for the doctor to cut out the mass.  Our doctor was pretty impressed with her artwork because it actually went along the incision line.

Well, the mass is back.  The last few weeks mom's foot has been killing her and she foot swells up so bad at night that it looks like the State Puff Marshmallow Man's foot.  She finally went to the doctor on Thursday and he thinks the mass came back and it is bigger than it was.  So, now waiting on the ultrasound (can't have an MRI because of the plates and screws in her foot).  We are hoping she can have surgery as soon as possible because she is not having fun.  Plus the kids were suppose to come up for a visit again and we were going to do Holiday World and Splashin' Safari again, but with moms foot there is no way in the world she would be able to walk all day long.  So, keep your fingers crossed that we can get her into surgery as soon as possible.

Mom is just not having a good year.

I finally finished going through the blog hop this morning.  There are a lot of amazing pieces from the Challenge and I have a whole list of books I want to go and download to my Nook.  If you haven't had a chance to go see everyone's Challenge pieces I highly recommend taking an hour or two to check them out - a lot of amazing artist out there!  Thanks again Erin for hosting the hop!!!

Have a wonderful weekend!

  1. Your mother does some amazing work on metal with a saw. I have done my share of sawing and I can tell you I am impressed.

I hope they can fix her foot again. Good thing she doesn't saw with her feet.

I think the worst part is all the waiting. Waiting to see the doctor, waiting to get the tests, waiting for the results, etc. The worst.
